The historical use of honey bee produce may be traced back to ancient times; both the Bible and the Koran refer to it as a promoter of health and long-lasting youth, while Hippocrates, the Greek Physician and father of medicine, extolled its many healing virtues.
One of the oldest-known honey products is bee pollen – blended pollen grain that is collected by the female worker bee from a wide variety of plants. The pollen from flowers stick to the bee’s hind legs and is then mixed with nectar and salivary substances to form a pellet which is carried back to the hive as the bees’ main food supply. Since bees usually harvest more pollen than a colony needs, beekeepers have devised special screens to scrape off surplus pollen as the bees enter the hive.
Our bee pollen is produced in Spain from multiple wildflowers including Cistus, Lavandula Stoechas and Genista. Spanish bee pollen is considered to be the best in the world, not only due to its sweet taste, fresh aroma and beautiful golden colour, but also for its outstanding nutritional value.
